Job description
About Ornn
Ornn is building the financial infrastructure for AI compute. Our price indices are live on Bloomberg Terminal. We structure and trade compute hedging instruments. And we're building products that make compute capacity easier to price, finance, reserve, and trade. We're a lean team in New York, backed by leading venture and strategic investors.
About the Role
As a Markets Engineer, you’ll be working on the research, analysis, and data science behind Ornn Data and our markets business.
This is a hands-on technical role, not a reporting job. You will write production code in our data repositories, build the datasets and models that explain what is happening in the compute market, and turn that work into indices, forward curves, research, and analysis that customers, traders, and our own team rely on.
You will sit with the markets team and work closely with engineering, the index team, and the people selling Ornn Data. On any given day that might mean tracking a new GPU cluster coming online, working out why B200 prices moved, adding a new source of offer data, or building the model behind a new analytics product.
What You'll Do
Build and maintain datasets on providers, data center capacity, hardware, offers, and executed transactions, including scrapers and integrations for new sources.
Develop the models behind Ornn's forward curves, payback periods, total cost of ownership, and residual value analysis.
Ship analysis as code: write, test, and review changes in Ornn's data repositories so research becomes a durable product rather than a one-off spreadsheet.
Track the market and competitive landscape, including other indices, exchanges, and new supply announcements, and flag what matters to the team quickly.
Help design and sanity-check index methodology, from which transactions count to how outliers and new chip types are handled.
Turn findings into clear charts, notes, and research that the markets, sales, and comms teams can use with customers and in public.
Own projects end to end, from the first question through data collection, modeling, and publication.
What We're Looking For
Requirements
Strong Python and SQL skills, and comfort working in a shared codebase with version control and code review.
Experience in data analysis, data science, quantitative research, or a similar role where your analysis informed real decisions.
Solid statistics, and the judgment to tell when data is noisy, biased, or incomplete.
Ability to take a vague question about a market and turn it into a clear, defensible answer.
Clear written communication, including explaining technical findings to non-technical teammates and customers.
Curiosity about how markets work and a real interest in AI infrastructure.
Ability to operate independently in a lean, fast-moving team.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience in quantitative trading, market making, commodities, energy, or financial data.
Experience building scrapers or data pipelines, or working with messy and inconsistent sources.
Knowledge of GPUs, cloud or neocloud markets, data centers, or power.
Why This Role Matters
Ornn's data is only valuable if it is right and someone can explain what it means. Markets engineers do both: they find the signal in fragmented market activity and turn it into numbers and research the market can trust.
The compute market is moving faster than any commodity market before it. New chips, new data centers, and new buyers change prices every week, and someone has to see those changes first, measure them properly, and explain them clearly.
Your work will shape the indices that futures settle against, the research customers pay for, and how the market understands the price of compute.
Compensation and Benefits
Benefits include competitive salary, meaningful equity, health coverage, free meals, and additional benefits. This is a high-ownership role with significant influence over Ornn's research agenda, data products, and how the market understands compute pricing.
Equal Opportunity Statement
Ornn is committed to building a diverse team. We evaluate candidates based on their ability to do the work, not on pedigree or background. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
